ISPM-15 Heat Treating

We Provide Heat Treating to ISPM-15 Standards.

Heat Treatment

The main purpose for Heat Treating solid wood products is to prevent international transportation and spread of disease or insects that could affect plants or ecosystems negatively.

If you ship to countries that are a part of the United Nations, you’ll want to be sure you have a trustworthy, certified source for heat-treated pallets. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) requires a treaty that all solid wood packaging must be heat-treated or fumigated before being transported into any member country.

International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC)

The ISPM 15 governs the appropriate processes to fumigate wood pallets, boxes, and crates. It requires that wood packaging material must be heated in accordance with a specific time–temperature schedule that achieves a minimum temperature of 132.8° Fahrenheit for at least 30 continuous minutes throughout the entire profile of the wood (including at its core).

Various energy sources or processes may be suitable to achieve these parameters. For example, kiln-drying, heat-enabled chemical pressure impregnation, microwave or other treatments may all be considered heat treatments provided that they meet the heat treatment parameters specified in this standard.
